See How Your Contributions Have Helped Oakland:

Focus Area One:
Students & Curriculum

One of our priorities is ensuring that every student receives evidence-based instruction designed for learners with language-based learning differences.

Thanks to donor support, we have enrolled our math teacher in a specialized multisensory mathematics training program through the Atlantic Seaboard Dyslexia Education Center (ASDEC). This Orton-Gillingham-based approach will strengthen our ability to remediate dyscalculia and support students who struggle with mathematics in the same way we support students with dyslexia in reading.

Focus Area One & Four:
Students & Community

Supporting the whole child means caring for both academic success and
overall wellbeing.

This summer, we added a Social Emotional Learning (SEL) counselor to our summer camp program. This additional support helps students build confidence,
strengthen self- regulation skills, and develop healthy social connections in a safe and nurturing environment.

We also successfully brought Oakland’s dining hall program back in-house. Beyond providing nutritious meals, the dining hall serves as an important community gathering space where students practice social skills, build relationships, and experience a greater sense of belonging. Restoring this program allows us to better support students while strengthening the daily connections that make Oakland such a special place for children and families.
We are evaluating whether we can bring one or both of these into the 2026-27 school year.

Focus Areas One & Two:
Students and Campus

This spring, we built a student garden that is already producing vegetables. More than a garden, it has become a living classroom where students engage in hands-on, multisensory learning. The garden is actively incorporated into math and science instruction and provides meaningful opportunities to connect academic concepts with real-world experiences.

Focus Area Two:
Campus & Facilities

Your support also helped us prepare our grounds—including the pool and Summerside facilities—for Oakland’s 77th Annual Summer Camp. These improvements ensure that students can enjoy a safe, engaging, and
memorable summer experience while making full use of Oakland’s unique campus environment.

Focus Area Three:
Equine Program

Oakland's Equine Program is a signature part of the student experience, providing opportunities to build confidence, develop executive functioning skills, strengthen communication, and engage in meaningful hands-on learning.

To ensure the highest level of care for our horses and goats while continuing to expand the integration of executive functioning and equine-assisted learning experiences, we added a second full-time member to our Equine Team. This investment strengthens daily animal care, supports program sustainability, and allows us to further develop the unique learning opportunities that make Oakland's equine program such a valuable part of our educational model.
