Mid-year transfers may be accommodated as space allows
We encourage families seeking a dyslexia school, ADHD school, or personalized private education program to apply as early as possible.
When to Apply
Our Application Process
At Oakland School, we take a thoughtful and individualized approach to admissions. As an independent private school for students with learning differences, we carefully evaluate each applicant to ensure our program is the right fit for the child, the family and Oakland School.
Our goal is simple: enroll students who will thrive within Oakland’s highly personalized academic environment.

Admissions Checklist
-
If your child learns differently and needs a more supportive environment, submit an inquiry form. Our Admissions Director will reach out to discuss whether Oakland may be a strong fit.
-
When appropriate, we schedule a detailed phone consultation to review your child’s academic history, learning profile, and educational needs. A preliminary fit assessment is made at this stage.
-
Submit the following:
Completed Application for Student Enrollment
Copy of Intellectual testing (e.g., WISC) from the past three years
Any relevant evaluations (speech/language, tutoring, therapy, etc.)
$50 application fee (via Blackbaud; credited toward tuition upon enrollment)
Teacher-completed Student Evaluation Form
School records, transcripts, achievement testing, and teacher comments (via Request for Release of Information form)
-
Our admissions team carefully reviews all materials to ensure alignment between your child’s needs and Oakland’s specialized program. Because this process may take several weeks, early application is recommended.
-
Families who appear to be a strong match are invited for an on-campus interview and tour. This visit allows you to:
Experience our individualized learning environment
Meet faculty and staff
Ask detailed questions
Determine mutual fit
This step also helps ease student concerns about transitioning to a new school.
-
Students who are well-matched to Oakland’s program will receive enrollment materials.
Tuition Assistance
Families may apply for tuition assistance upon acceptance. Awards are determined by the Scholarship Committee based on demonstrated financial need and available funds.
In some cases, tuition and fees for students diagnosed with specific learning disabilities may qualify as tax-deductible medical expenses under federal regulations. Families should consult a qualified tax professional.
