Current Openings At Oakland School

Literacy Teacher - Summer Camp

Position Status: Full-Time, Temporary

Oakland School, a co-educational day school located on 450 acres in Troy, VA, is looking for teachers for our summer session. Potential applicants would need to be available from Monday, June 16 to Friday, July 25 from 8:20 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 will be in-service days. Start your teaching journey with a summer at Oakland, with the potential to transition into a longer-term role based on need and fit.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and teach small group and 1:1, in-person literacy classes, working with students who have learning differences and/or who need reinforcement/catch-up in literacy and keeping literacy going for students during the summer

  • Integrate creativity daily to include themes, projects, outdoor learning activities

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students, children between the ages of 6 -16

  • Provide mindful guidance to students

Qualifications:

  • Virginia Teaching License: Special Education (Learning Disabilities),

  • Elementary/Middle Education, Reading

  • Great organizational and communication skills

  • Flexible, collaborative and creative

  • Enjoy working with school-aged children

Pay: $5,200 salary for six-week program

Camp Counselor - Summer Camp

Position Status: Full-Time, Temporary

Oakland School, a co-educational day school located on 450 acres in Troy, VA, is looking for camp counselors for our summer session. Potential applicants would need to be available from Monday, June 16 to Friday, July 25. Shifts would be 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday for Day Counselors, or 4 days on/3 days off for overnight counselors.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead recreational classes such as Swimming, Sports, Arts and Crafts, and Science and Nature

  • Assist in large recreational group activities such as camping, bonfires, Water Field Day, etc.

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students, children ages 6 - 16

  • Ensure the structure of the camp activities program and provide mindful guidance to students

Qualifications:

  • At least one year of college, or post-high school work that includes experience supervising children

  • Display qualities in patience, reasoning, communication, and teamwork

  • Enjoy working with school-aged children

  • Lifeguard Certification is a plus or a willingness to become certified

Pay: $3,200 salary for six-week program

Teaching Assistant - Summer Camp

Position Status: Full-Time, Temporary

Oakland School, a co-educational day school located on 450 acres in Troy, VA, is looking for teacher assistants for our summer session. Potential applicants would need to be available from Monday, June 16 to Friday, July 25 from 8:20 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Monday, June 16 through Friday, June 20 will be in-service days.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist instruction in reading, phonics, math, and/or writing for students with learning differences or who need reinforcement/catch-up in a subject

  • Assist with grading and other administrative tasks

  • Work with students 1:1 and in small groups

  • Ensure the safety and supervision of students, children between the ages of 6 - 16

  • Ensure the structure of the camp academics and provide mindful guidance to students

Qualifications:

  • Some college preferred

  • Experience working with children

  • Great organizational and written language skills

  • Flexible and a team player

  • Enjoy working with school-aged children

Pay: $3,200 salary for six-week program
